This week we go underground to see the terrors mankind inflicts upon itself by digging deep into the earth. It’s mostly tunnels, but there’s also a creepy bug pit.
This episode was recorded pre-election, so our voices still sparkle with hope for the future. Our heart goes out to those of you dealing with difficult shit during a difficult time. We hope you’ll grab a beer and join four dummies yelling creepy stories at each other. We’ll leave an empty chair for you.
It is the BEST time of the year! We here at Peripheral are huge fans of Halloween. We love decorating our houses with spooky stuff, crafting nerdy costumes and doubling down on our scary movie viewings. This week we decided to get a little personal and share what scared us the most as kids. We then justify those youthful terrors with real world horrors. We hope you enjoy it!
Scientists have mapped the human genome, explored the wonders of the universe and developed the perfect chocolate chip cookie. But all those late nights alone in the lab can have strange effects on the mind. Or maybe that’s just the LSD. This week we discuss mind-altering experiments, reanimated farm animals, petri dish musicians and a serious lack of respect for radiation. Mad scientists combine the dangers of the human mind with a total disregard for life, nature and the gods themselves.
Guys, being alive is hard. If you have learned anything from this podcast it is that everything is trying to kill you. We are all doing our best despite that fact, but it is impossible to keep vigilant when you can’t even see all the terrors. The unfortunate folks in the stories we share this week were trying their best. You can’t inspect the earth below your house to see if is has a “devil’s lair” or not, you would never assume that a man can fit his body into a hole in your ceiling that is the size of a cigar box, and if a neighbor offers you a casserole you would never guess that the secret ingredient is long pig. We do our best, but even with the best of intentions you might end up eating dude stew.
We hope you enjoy this episode. It might inspire you to go bunker shopping.
This week we are talking about a very special kind of haunt. The needy, angsty teen of the ghost family: the poltergeist. Our stories about poltergeists will paint a vivid portrait of an unwanted emo spirit crashing on your couch. This unpleasant visitor will judge your reading material, steal your blankets to do goth shit with them and scratch Joy Division lyrics into the side of your car. Get your butts held because things are about to get physical!
*SPOILERS for the movie DON’T BREATHE – starts at 21:29 ends at 21:53. We love you, be careful.
This week on Peripheral we can hear the black helicopters swirling because we are talking about secret societies. You have to choose your membership wisely though, because some of these exclusive clubs are for fun times and others are all about unnecessary surgeries. Take off your skin and shake off that lizard tail, let’s talk about the people who are really in charge.
From metropolis to podunk, everyone’s hometown is different, but they share common threads that connect us all. Every town has ghost stories, creepy townies and abandoned buildings. And every town has a haunted lover’s lane, or a trail where kids went missing, or that lake where your cousin’s best friend’s older brother said that one boy drowned.
This week each member of the Peripheral Team talks about their different hometowns and the true stories of murder that weave them together. We hope you enjoy it!
This week’s episode is on the topic of anachronisms, objects that seem to exist in a time period where they don’t belong. We have a wide variety of curious objects ranging from mechanical computers to alien discs. It is a weird one, so put a hold on your butt and dive on in.
We’ve got ourselves a GRAB BAG this week! These stories are about anything we choose. The only ribbon tying these stories together is terror. You won’t know what to expect or how to prepare yourself for these spooks and scares. What you do know is that you will be gifted, from our generous mouths, four creepy stories. We hope you enjoy this episode and its many unwanted conversations about wrestling.
We here at Peripheral hope you all had a lovely Mother’s day. Did you call your mom and tell her that you love her? Did you buy her a card? We hope you did, because family is important. After hearing this week’s episode we hope to give you a few ideas for next year’s Mother’s Day card. Next year you could write something more original like, “Thanks for not scarring my face to make me look like my dead sibling,” or “I appreciate everything you don’t do — like not making meth, getting into witchcraft and driving our family out into the woods, never to return.”
